Can I use my last pay stub if I don’t have my W-2 yet?

It is not recommended to use your last pay stub for filing your taxes. Your pay stub information is commonly very different than the information on your W-2, and there are items on a W-2 that don’t appear on pay stubs.

Because you’re responsible for making sure your information is accurate and complete when self-preparing and filing your taxes (including when using Beem), you should use your W-2 to prepare and file your taxes.

Employers have until January 31st to postmark W-2s. You may also be available to download your W-2 if your employer provides you with online access to this form.

If by mid-February you have not yet received your W-2, please do one of the following:

  • Check with your employer. Whether or not you’re with the same employer, the first action should be to call the HR department and ask that the form be resent to you.

  • Request the wage and income transcript from the IRS. For every W-2 and 1099 that’s ever been sent to you, one copy of it has to go to the IRS. This means you can request a transcript from them either online or by mail

  • If it’s later in the year and you still haven’t received anything despite your efforts, you can use Form 4852
